New York bans 12 unsafe AI chatbot features for kids, with fines up to $25,000
Governor Kathy Hochul has signed S.9051B, a law that bans chatbots from pretending to be human, flattering kids, building emotional dependency or encouraging self harm with users under 18. Companies must check ages first, and the attorney general can seek $25,000 per violation. The rules start on January 1, 2027.
