Hosting and server logs

This site runs on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) using Cloudflare Workers. When you open a page, your IP address and technical request data (browser, time, requested page) are processed by Cloudflare to deliver the page and protect it against attacks. I do not use this data to identify you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in a secure and working website). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Cookies and analytics

This site does not set cookies for visitors and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking tools. To understand which pages are read, I use Matomo, an open-source analytics tool that I host myself on my own server (analytics.janzin-holding.com). It runs in a cookie-free mode, anonymizes your IP address and does not share data with third parties. The statistics are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my interest in knowing which content is read). The admin area, which only I can use, uses a login session cookie that is strictly necessary.

Short links (go.djcroman.com)

Links on social media often use short links on go.djcroman.com. When you open one, I count the click anonymously: the date and time, the short link, the country (derived by Cloudflare), the platform tag of the link, the referring site and a coarse class of the client (for example bot or not). Your IP address and full browser identifier are not stored and no cookie is set. Known bots and link previews are marked and left out of the statistics. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my interest in knowing which channels reach readers).

Videos

Videos from YouTube are not loaded when you open a page. A placeholder with a thumbnail is shown. Only after you click play, the video loads from the privacy-enhanced domain youtube-nocookie.com. Thumbnails come from i.ytimg.com (Google), which means your IP address is sent to Google when a thumbnail loads. Google's privacy policy applies from that point.

Fonts and images

Fonts and images are served from this site itself, not from third-party servers.

The newsletter is not live yet. When it starts, it will be sent with Listmonk, which I host myself on my own server. I will store only your email address and the time you signed up, use a double opt-in (you confirm by clicking a link in an email) and send you only the newsletter. The legal basis is your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can unsubscribe with one click in every email, and I then delete your address. Until the signup is live, the form on this site does not store anything.

Contact by email

If you write to hello@djcroman.com, I use your message and address only to answer you and delete them when the matter is settled, unless the law requires me to keep them.

Social media profiles

This site links to my profiles on X, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest and Reddit. Just following a link from this site does not send data to those platforms until you open it. After that, the privacy policy of each platform applies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete and restrict the processing of your data, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@djcroman.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA) in Ansbach.

Changes

If the site changes, for example when the newsletter goes live, I will update this page and the date above.
