OpenAI and Meta warn US courts that deepfakes may outrun detection
On October 15, 2026, OpenAI and Meta told the US Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Evidence Rules in Boston that AI generated media may already outrun reliable detection. OpenAI counsel Shira Anderson said she does not believe a scientific method will exist to reliably detect AI images. Meta product manager Devin Norder said recent AI media cannot be told apart from authentic content by humans.
